How to Organize Under the Sink Around Plumbing and Pipes

White two-tier under-sink organizers positioned around kitchen plumbing and pipes

Pipes, shutoff valves and disposals are the main reason under-sink cabinets feel awkward. Instead of trying to create one full-width shelf, it is usually better to organize around the plumbing.

Map the plumbing first

Empty the cabinet and identify the drain pipe, water lines, valves and any disposal unit. These fixed elements define the usable storage zones.

Measure open zones separately

Measure the left side, right side and front clearance instead of treating the cabinet as one empty box. Our measurement guide explains what to check.

Keep valves accessible

Do not block shutoff valves with permanent storage. You should be able to reach them quickly if needed.

Use narrow vertical storage

A correctly sized 2-tier pull-out organizer can use the open area beside plumbing while preserving access to pipes.

Store tall bottles where height is available

The center of the cabinet may be restricted by the sink bowl and drain. Taller products often fit better toward the sides.

Use shallow bins near the front

Small bins can hold cloths, sponges or dishwasher tablets without interfering with rear plumbing.

Avoid overpacking

Leave some open space so you can inspect pipes and notice leaks early.

Keep moisture-sensitive items protected

Under-sink cabinets can leak. Avoid storing items that could be ruined or create a safety issue if exposed to water.

Check whether this organizer fits beside your pipes

The KOOVEXO organizer measures approximately 36 cm wide, 27 cm deep and 28 cm high (14.2 × 10.6 × 11.0 in). Those are overall product dimensions, not a promise that it fits every sink cabinet. Measure an uninterrupted rectangular area beside the pipes, including the height below the sink bowl.

For example, a clear zone only 30 cm wide cannot accommodate a 36 cm-wide organizer in that orientation. A cabinet may be wide enough overall while neither side of its central pipe provides enough space. In that case, choose smaller removable bins rather than forcing a two-tier rack into the opening.

After checking the footprint, open the cabinet door fully and check that the lower tray can move forward without catching on a hinge or frame. Keep the organizer clear of pipe connections and shutoff valves. For a disposal-specific layout, use our garbage disposal storage guide.

FAQ

How do I organize an under-sink cabinet with pipes in the middle?

Use the open space on either side and choose narrow organizers instead of a full-width shelf.

Can I put storage directly around plumbing?

Yes, as long as you preserve access to valves and leave enough clearance to inspect the pipes.

What type of organizer works best around plumbing?

Compact, narrow and pull-out designs can be practical because they use side space and improve access.
